::What is Share An Umbrella? ::
Share An Umbrella is a socially minded, fun organization made up of artists and artisans who desire to care for people who are less fortunate than themselves. At Share an Umbrella we seek to foster artists who desire more for their craft than the simple adornment of a place or person. This is why a portion of everything bought through us is given to an honest and respectable charity. You arent only supporting a hard working artist, but you are supporting someone in greater need. Our hope is for our artists to create beautiful things while making the world a more beautiful place. We provide a market place for skilled, independent artists, handpicked for the quality of their work as well as the kindness of their hearts. SAU is made up of metalsmiths, musicians, painters, DIY artisans, photographers, writers, and the like.
::About Share An Umbrellas gallery in Salem, MA ~ 2005::
The city of Salem MA, world famous for her legendary witch trials, seeks to support and enrich the artistic community. Share An Umbrella was chosen to assist in this task. This was a most fortunate and exciting opportunity for our participants and us. SAU was granted a store located in the heart of Salems busy downtown, surrounded by shops, restaurants, office buildings and tourist attractions from May15th thru November 15th 2005. In exchange for this wonderful large space, we held loads of free workshops and performances by independent musicians for the community. It was a great growing opportunity for us and we hope to find similar oppotunities in the future.
We are in the process of going "green"!.
Soon all to most of our literature will be printed on 100% recycled paper, 80% of wich is post consumer waste. We use a company that only uses water based inks.
SAU is an avid recylcer.
We strive to support other kinds of local business by not buying from mega crazy places like wal-mart.
We try to buy local produce and products.
We are a music venue for harworking indpenedent musicians as well. We really love good music.
Our Future?
We would love to open SAU shops all around the country, making an accessible place for artists to sell teir work and people to buy it. We hope to set up a trip for our contributing artists and loyal customers to go out and physically help make the world a better place by building homes for those in need. We have lots more ideas, but we need to formulate them more before we share them with the world!

Do you really donate 10% of each sale?
Heck Yes! This is the most important part of Share An Umbrella! We know that there are loads of people less fortunate than us. There are many many many places where buying a felt hair clip seems like absolute tripe! But we understand that due to our lucky and fortunate circumstances we are able to make a living in a way we love, and provide products for other fortunate people to love and enjoy. We never want to take for granted how lucky we are, so giving back seemed like a good way to head. Buy donating a portion of each sale, our customers can support hardworking artists, and people in true need. We recognize that there are different forms of need, so deciding to support one was very draining, how do you say who needs more than who? We made the decision to research charities that have a heart for peoples in need of food, shelter, or clothing.

How do I pay for my items?
At the moment, we only accept major credit cards through Paypal, and paypal accounts. Pay pal is fast, easy and secure. It is the most used and secure source of online payment. What is an Un-Anchored Shop?
We are! We have coined the phrase because we are never in one set place for very long. We attend many craft and holiday shows throughout New England and hopefully nationally very soon. Its kind of like a traveling shop, but we thought "un-anchored" sounded a bit more interesting. We also hold shows at various locations, or will shack up in a likeminded location for a certain amount of time.
What kinds of artists do you accept?
SAU really and truly wants to support artists who are making the commerce of their craft their profession. We think crafty businesses on the side is super, but we really really really want people to realize their dream and make making things their full time job. We tend to lean towards artists who have proven that they are taking things seriously, or are in the steps towards taking things seriously. Nice and neat web site, product design and packaging design are all aspects that draw us towards certain artists. We are also starting to head in a environmentally friendly direction. Artists who are trying to use post consumer product materials, and all natural materials will be given priority in our selection process. Its a good and fun habit to get into. But most importantly, we take artists who really want their art to mean something more, people who help others are great and they have a special place in our hearts.
Can I submit work for review?

Where are you guys located?
In the past (Nov 2005-April 2006) Epiphany Books was hosting "A Piece of Share An Umbrella".
They were located at 9 Railroad Ave Beverly Ma 01915. Before that we had our own little Brick & Mortar shop in Salem MA. They are turning the market place we were located in called "Artist's Row" into a parking lot, I mean, hey... who doesn't need another parking lot, right?
At the moment, we run out of Cambridge, MA. Rhonda Wyman is ShopKeeper, Founder, and and Artist of SAU, her husband Elijah helps keep her sane, lift all the heavy stuff, gives occasional feet massages, and helps her in an unbelievable way. Their cat, Puppy, has no tail and cuddles with Rhonda whenever she needs a lil' extra lovin'.
